How was the fifth day of "SevilFest"?
The fifth day of SevilFest brought together films from different countries, special screenings, and inspiring conversations with filmmakers and audiences.
Throughout the day, the programme featured Mailin and Memory from the Festival Picks section, the local short documentary Coldünya: From 1990 to the Present, and The Underground Orchestra as part of the Heddy Honigmann Retrospective.
In the evening, Beer & Friends hosted the festival's first-ever AniDoc Night, a new addition to this year's programme celebrating the creative possibilities of documentary animation. Audiences watched seven animated documentary shorts: Hairy Legs, Because Today Is Saturday, Paradise, Whose Woods Are These?, Because I'm a Girl, Collective Memory, and The Tailless Cat.
Moving between deeply personal stories and collective memory, from gender norms to the lasting traces of war, the programme demonstrated the unique power of animation as a medium for documentary storytelling.
Following the screening of the seven films competing in the International AniDoc Competition, audiences joined a discussion with the creative team behind Because I'm a Girl. Directors Ayana Baymuratova and Fatima Chorobekova shared the story behind the film and reflected on its creative process.
The evening was more than just a film screening. It became a space where audiences met new people, exchanged ideas sparked by the films, and connected with fellow documentary film enthusiasts in a warm and informal atmosphere.
