How was the second day of "SevilFest"?

The second day of SevilFest began with DokAtelye: Editing, a three-day workshop designed for documentary film projects currently in post-production. During the workshop, the selected teams had the opportunity to work on the editing, narrative structure, and rhythm of their films under the mentorship of Samira Kidman and Katya Dringenberg.

As part of the National Competition, Atanur Nabiyeva's documentary Between Two Fires was screened. The film follows the lives of three veterans returning from the Second Karabakh War as they continue to cope with the invisible wounds left by the conflict. Following the screening, the director spoke about the filmmaking process and answered questions from the audience.

The programme continued with the screening of Grandma Final Version, a local short documentary directed by Mohammad Aliyev. In the film, the young director attempts to say goodbye to his grandmother after her passing by revisiting family archive footage. Told with a distinctive perspective and a touch of humour, the film offers an intimate reflection on memory and loss. After the screening, the director joined the audience for a Q&A session.

Festival guests also attended the "Editing–Demolition" masterclass led by Katya Dringenberg, one of Germany's acclaimed film editors, dramaturgs, and directors. Through selected scenes from her films, participants explored the creative possibilities of editing and gained insight into the craft behind shaping a film.

The first screening in the Heddy Honigmann Retrospective was Metal and Melancholy, in which the director portrays Peru's social and political landscape through the stories of taxi drivers. Following the screening, Monique Lesterhuis—who worked closely with Heddy Honigmann from 2015 onwards as a researcher, screenwriter, and assistant director—shared insights into the filmmaker's creative process, the ideas behind her films, and what it was like to collaborate with her during the final years of her career.
