"SEVIL" HAS SPOKEN HIS WORD. NOW IT'S OUR TURN.
In 1928, Jafar Jabbarli wrote the play “Sevil”. It was the story of a woman who wanted to make her voice heard.
Almost a hundred years have passed. The world has changed. But the questions raised by this play are still seeking answers.
What happens when a woman starts speaking in her own voice?
Who is ready to hear her?
Why are some changes accepted by society, while others are met with resistance?
This year, “SevilFest” says “Enough!”
But “Sevil” said this long before us.
Celebrating its seventh anniversary, the festival returns to that work again this year. Not only as a classic example of Azerbaijani literature, but also as a conversation that continues today.
That is why we invite you to a different theater evening within the framework of “SevilFest”.
The first part of the evening will feature a reading of the play “Sevil”. This is an opportunity to listen to a familiar text again and look at it through the eyes of today.
In the second part, the boundary between the stage and the audience will disappear.
The heroes of the play will remain with us, and the audience will be able to talk to them, ask questions and look at events and characters from a new perspective.
The play will end.
But the conversation will not.
