Masculinities

What does it mean to be a m*n?
There is no single answer to this question. Masculinity is shaped, taught, and experienced differently across societies, families, and individual lives.
The three short documentaries in this programme explore masculinity from different perspectives. Cut (Canada) questions ideas around reproductive choice, fatherhood, and the male body. Kekre (Türkiye) examines how masculinity is constructed and understood through the experiences of men who exist beyond conventional gender expectations. Men's Land (Georgia) reveals how masculinity can become not only a personal identity but also a system connected to property, inheritance, and power.

In the Azerbaijani context as well, masculinity often comes with a set of expectations: how a man should behave, what he should feel, which profession he should choose, and even what interests he should or should not have.

The discussion panel following the screenings will invite the audience to explore these questions in the context of Azerbaijan and reflect together on how masculinity shapes individual experiences and society.
