From an Azerbaijani-speaking village to "Oscar"

The next SevilFest Masterclass will take us on a journey behind Cutting Through Rocks. Together with the film’s directors, we’ll explore how the documentary was made and the challenges behind its production.

Mohammadreza Eyni and Sara Khaki, the directors of Cutting Through Rocks, nominated for the 2026 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, will share the story behind the film with the SevilFest audience.

From a remote village in Iran to some of the world’s most prestigious film platforms, the directors will talk about the research process, filming, editing, international collaborations, building long-term trust with their protagonist, and making creative decisions in documentary filmmaking.

The masterclass will offer a closer look at the often unseen side of contemporary documentary filmmaking.
